While you're still trying to ponder that one, another question then seems to come to mind, that being how do you actually play the game? While a general explanation of your task is given on each mode, it does take a short amount of time to determine exactly what's meant to be happening.
Lubaja consists of three modes: Match It, Clear It and Shoot Out. In all three modes, a ring of coloured circles will move around either clockwise or anti-clockwise (you can alter the direction with a quick press of the action button). Your task is to then press the d-pad to fire out further circles, so that they land in sections of the ring. Where you want them to land varies depending on the mode that you're playing.
In Match It, your aim to complete the pattern of the ring by firing the correct balls in the necessary vacant slot. When the pattern is complete, you'll move on to the next level. Failure comes if you either run out of time on any of the levels, or if you land three balls in incorrect slots.
Clear It also has you firing balls into vacant slots, this time with the aim of creating chains of three or more balls of the same colour or design. This makes them disappear from the ring. When playing this game, you need to make a certain amount of chains before the time runs out in order to access the next level.
Finally, Shoot Out has you trying to remove the balls from the ring by shooting those with matching colours or patterns at them. Finishing a level involves emptying out the ring entirely, again before time runs out.
Every so often, a cross-hair icon will appear over certain vacant slots, giving you a chance to earn bonuses by firing a ball to this location. The bonuses will include the likes of freezing the countdown timer, or maybe just adding some additional seconds to it. These can make all the difference between level success and failure at times. Waiting too long to take a shot not only costs you valuable seconds, but also leaves you at risk of the ball firing by itself.
All the action takes place on a single screen, so you want have to be scrolling all over the place to see what's going on. The various colours and patterns (including dice, flowers and moons to name just a few) are easy to tell apart as well. While the sound consists of a constant tune playing over and over again, it's relatively quiet and you're unlikely to notice it for the most part.
Lubaja is a decent idea for a puzzle game, albeit slightly flawed. The fact that it takes a short while to fully understand what you're doing is a bit of a nuisance, and games seem to constantly come to an end just as you're getting into the flow of things. Still, once you get going it can be quite hard to put down, and being able to share and view scores from players around the world can also add a touch of replay value.
